Block Penetrator

The magician shows a rectangular wooden tube. It has four sides and can be opened completely to display both the inside and the outside. Two of the sides have large holes at the top and bottom. The other two sides have a large hole at the top and a small hole at the bottom. A solid wooden block has a hole running through its center. The block is dropped into the tube from above, and the audience can clearly see it passing through the tube thanks to the openings. The magician then inserts a wooden rod through the small holes, apparently locking the block inside the tube.
After a few magic words, the block suddenly passes through the rod and falls out of the tube, astonishing the audience!
